  • Stella McCartney has announced that she will be launching her first lingerie collection in time for the Spring/Summer 2008 season.

“The collection will mirror the designer’s womenswear line, using a soft palette of dusty pink, cream, grey and blue. Organic cotton will also be a feature of the collection, a continuation of McCartney’s efforts to make her label ethical.

Speaking to Women’s Wear Daily, McCartney said: ‘This is a natural progression for me. Lingerie is an obsession of mine. I have been inspired by it for many, many years. Ever since my degree collection at Saint Martins, I have always used it in my work.’

In partnership with Bendon, the lingerie company that has produced underwear with Elle Macpherson, the new line will be in stores from January 2008. It will be available at Stella McCartney shops and Selfridges for British consumers, with prices starting at £35.

Speaking of the addition of lingerie to the label, Marco Bizzarri, chief executive of Stella McCartney said: ‘Right now, there are brands like La Perla – and then a big gap below them. We are aiming to deliver a high-end product with prices that are a little lower than La Perla.’ (30 July 2007)”
